JAKE PLUS TOM
JAKE PLUS TOM
JAKE AND TOM MET IN THE BACKWATERS OF LOUISIANA IN A QUAINT HURRICANE TOWN WITH A DRINKING PROBLEM. THEY BEGAN THEIR ROMANCE THROUGH A MIX OF FRUIT-FLAVORED BEERS, COSTUME PARTIES, AND SLEEVELESS SOFTBALL GAMES.
JAKE ONCE SAID, "TOO MUCH BLUE CAN RUIN AN OUTIFT." HE WAS WRONG.
Despite knowing Jake and Tom fairly well, you may not know what they actually do for a living. Hopefully this will help.
What does a Pediatric Cardiologist do?
First off, pediatric cardiologists are NOT children's heart surgeons. A pediatric cardiologist diagnoses, often as a fetus, congenital heart defects or heart problems caused by processes such as infections, not enough oxygen, or autoimmune diseases.
Pediatric cardiologists use tools such as a thorough history and physical, our ears, echocardiography (ultrasound), CT scans, and MRI for diagnosis.
Wealso manage patients medically, refer them to surgeons, or fix electrical problems of the heart as well as close small holes or dilate vessels with balloons with catheters. After surgery, in many advanced centers, cardiologists manage patients in the cardiac intensive care unit and are responsible for all aspects of post-operative care.
How old are my patients?
My patients range from fetuses to about the age of 21 when we try to transition them to adult providers.
If you're not a surgeon, then why do you wear scrubs?
1. Scrubs are comfortable and you don't have to worry about matching.
2. We work very closely with the surgeons and are many times in the operating rooms for help with diagnoses or doing procedures that can be messy.
3. We're on call A LOT, scrubs are also our pajamas.
So I know that there are medical students, residents, and attendings, but what the heck is a fellow?
A fellow is a doctor who has finished a residency in a general area, such as pediatrics, and is sub-specializing in a more narrow field, such as pediatric cardiology. We're basically glorified residents.
Guess Which one Tom works on??
What does a chemical engineer do?
Chemical engineers sit at desks, make spreadsheets, and go to meetings. Their email inboxes are usually very organized. They work out at lunch and get every other Friday off. Chemical engineers are often described as the smartest of all engineers, especially when compared to mechanical engineers, aerospace engineers, nuclear engineers, and computer scientists.
A chemical engineer at Shell manages corrosion and asset integrity through material selection, process variable adjustments, and injection of select chemicals. Any day without a leak is a good day. They also select and qualify chemicals to inject into the process, which help separate oil, water, and gas. Chemical engineers in no way plunder the earth but rather build a better future for all mankind. Why else would a rainbow shine down on Tom's platform every single day?
