Normally I only watch soccer every 4 years (or 8 since there was no 2016 World Cup), but I’ll make an exception for Isabel’s Soccer Shots team!

Jake, unsurprisingly, bought Isabel a soccer outfit including high socks, Umbros, and a shirt that says ‘Game On’ with a picture of a soccer ball.  Also unsurprisingly, Isabel refused to wear it and instead chose a pink dress that says ‘Love’ with a rainbow heart as the O.  I wasn’t going to fight a battle about what she wanted to wear, so the soccer outfit will have to wait.  When we showed up, her boyfriend, Jules, had on a soccer outfit and his mom admitted that there were some tears while convincing him to wear it.

Two year old soccer is exactly what you’re picturing.  It’s 3 kids mostly wandering around a park with attention drifting between Coach Holly, their parents, the soccer balls, the nearby playground, and food….SQUIRREL! what was I saying? oh well…

They practiced sitting on their soccer balls, little kicks, putting soccer ball on upside down cones like ice cream scoops, and big kicks toward the goal.   Isabel is a true lefty and has a big boot, although she seemed to only be doing the soccer part to get the high fives.  Sitting on soccer balls also proved more difficult than anticipated and they all tumbled off their soccer ball at least once (which was followed quickly by laughter and intentional falling from their soccer balls)

This past week the theme was ‘farm’ (yes, that’s right…soccer practice had a theme).  That means that while they were running around the ‘pig pen’ (area surrounded by cones) they got to make pig noises.  Coach Holly also had them pretend to be a clock because they wanted to make little kicks – tick tock tick tock.
