As some of you may know, I have a bit of sweet tooth and it seems that Isabel has acquired this sweet tooth as well.

Fortunately for me, I can use it as a bonding experience with Isabel (and Jake).  Our new house has a fancy donut shop less than a block away so on lazy weekend mornings we can have donuts as a special treat.  We put our cookie monster crocs on, stay in our pjs, and brave the New Orleans heat to the donut store.  If it’s cool enough out, we will sit across the street and eat our donuts together.  Isabel is happy and I’m happy.

Isabel shows me what a good ‘sharer’ she is.  She pulls off a little piece of the donut and throws it toward a bird and then yells “GET IT, BIRDIE” and “EAT IT” until the bird gains the confidence to come eat the donut bit.  Sometimes I have to go pick it up and let her throw it again or toss it a bit further from the yelling toddler.  When the bird finally picks up the donut, she screams with joy, then we repeat.

While she may be good at sharing with the local birds, dad is not so fortunate.  The first time we went on a donut date, I got one donut assuming she wouldn’t finish, and I’d get about half a donut.  Her instincts kicked in and she knew I was waiting for her to be all done, so she ate the entire donut…none for dad.  I was very impressed as the donut was probably 2% of her body weight.

Isabel has decided that this donut store is amazing and will just start walking up the steps about half of the time we walk by it.  Luckily, it closes early (2pm) so I can just tell her its closed and walk past but I foresee a few tantrums at the base of the stairs in our future when I say no.
